The Bidirectional Locomotion of Prawns

- This educational poster was created to teach viewers about how prawns (among other crustaceans) are able to swim both forward and backward using special appendages.
Process
1. Thumbnails
I created many iterations of the poster to decide how best to show the prawn in motion.

2. Line Work
All of the line work for this poster was drawn with pencil and then scanned in. At this phase, I’m arranging my scans and finalizing my word story.

3. Tone
Once all my graphic elements had been arranged, I began to digitally render my piece while carefully observing in-person and photo reference. I used prawns and a fish (pictured here) purchased from the grocery store for reference.

4. Final Render
Various special effects brushes (some created, some downloaded) helped me achieve more lifelike texture. I made sure to light the scene to draw focus to the prawn.
